A recent gas explosion in New York City’s East Village neighborhood caused three apartment buildings to collapse and burst into flames and one other to catch fire. The traumatic event killed two people and left many others with severe injuries.
Not only is there considerable damage to be repaired, but now the building’s owners could be facing manslaughter charges after allowing illegal plumbing work to be performed. Gas was allegedly being supplied from one building to another, and this may be the cause of the deadly explosion.
This incident serves as a reminder of the depth of responsibility property managers face on a daily basis. If an explosion like the one in New York City occurred at one of your buildings, do you know how you would respond? Would your tenants know what to do? As a property manager you are responsible for the life safety of your tenants, but often times in an emergency situation their response is hindered by out-of-date contact information and unreliable methods of emergency notification.
Assess and Plan
We perform a variety of services to measure the unexpected risks to your buildings. Additionally, one of the keys to life safety is creating an Emergency Action Plan that includes evacuation routes, shelter-in-place, and threat-specific plans that your team can follow easily.
Train and Test
Educated teams and tenants make better decisions in emergency situations. Preparis provides an all-in-one portal with threat-based interactive training courses, checklists, and exercises to teach roles, responsibilities, and response protocols to your team. Life safety plans must also be tested, and our tabletop drills analyze the results of threat-specific scenarios to expose any vulnerabilities in your plans.
Respond and Recover
Effectively responding to a crisis includes alerting your tenants rapidly with our two-way emergency notification system. After an emergency, you will always have access to your critical documents in one place, no matter where you are.
