America’s PrepareAthon! is a year-round, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)-sponsored grassroots campaign which seeks to increase the number of individuals, organizations, and communities who understand how to prepare for and respond to the specific disasters more likely to occur in their areas. In the spring and fall each year, a national day of action—called National PrepareAthon! Day—is observed to highlight the importance of developing a more resilient nation through participation in and the promotion of preparedness activities.

April 30th is National PrepareAthon! Day in the spring, and since this week ends with the national day of action, many organizations have planned week-long events to better prepare for disasters. Preparis customer ServiceMaster has done just that. Take a look at how they are participating April 25th-29th:

  • Daily Communications—Emails will be sent to all employees communicating the importance of preparing for a disaster. For example, one day will focus on earthquake safety tips. Additionally, signs with tips will be posted in common areas.
  • Partnerships—Their American Red Cross local chapter will provide a presentation on how to make a disaster prep kit.
  • Education—Safety Floor Monitors will discuss with the company their roles and responsibilities in the event of a disaster.
  • Preparis Portal—An emergency messaging system test will be sent to all employees to ensure contact information is up to date.

There is still time to plan an activity within your organization.
