Late last night, a person wielding a suspicious package jumped the White House fence, but, fortunately, was quickly captured.
The Secret Service apprehended Jerome R. Hunt shortly after he scaled the south side fence and is now holding him in custody pending charges. After thorough examination, the package has been cleared as harmless; however, no additional information has been released regarding its contents.
The Secret Service has come under scrutiny as this incident is now the 7th time someone has “jumped the fence since 2014 and the 16th time in the past five years,” (USA Today).
